Worls Jazz Night Out, december 09

Once again Sol Studio Art had the pleasure to collaborate with five wonderfull musicians. The World Jazz night Out happening that took place on the 4th of December exceeded our expectations, with the performances of Marcus Roberts, keyboardist and producer, Johnathan Merla on Congas, Justin Lyons on base, Jason Bell on guitar and Cleon Edwards on Drums. Their original repertoire went from an easy listening Jazz to a funky dialogue between their instruments. Marcus had the audience on their feet and doing chorus. DJ chino and Brian took over the floor after the concert with a splash of latin mixes and for a night cap Johnathan Merla gifted us with a short but spirited session of congas and cajon. Till next year, peace. solange

Networking Through The Arts

We are not robots that need to memorize our lines in order to get a good job interview, yet networking seems to be the new poor man's(unemployed)way to stay in the race. Networking actually bring people with specific needs together and allow them a place to reconstruct, reenergize and hope. I get my fix from the collaboration and participation artists partake. Sol Studio Art is that place, a sanctuary for the arts to mingle and inspire. I am very gratefull to all the people that have walked through the studio in this spirit of collaboration and peace. Musicians, poets, visual artists, theater directors, actors, teachers, educators, ceo's and landscapers, I thank you for the gift you have shared with me at Sol Studio Art. Till next one, peace.solange

Commentary: Jazz In The House

When you go out to listen to Jazz and realize that one of the listeners with front row sit is a cat, then you know that the music must great. That is what happened last night at Sol Studio Art Jazz NIght Out. Messy, my live model for two of my new paintings and house pet came in and sat on the front row while Duriye & Friends jammed to a soft easy listening jazz. The evening went quite well and the crowd as always diverse and refreshing. Old friends and new ones to be made, cultivating relatinships, connecting with each other in a setting that encourages freedom of expression, that is what the space is about. I am blessed to be exposed to such great giants both in art and life. Thanks to all who activelly participated and gave. Our happenings are casual and warm and we do appreciate the uplifting and positive comments, thus validating our mission at Sol Studio Art. peace, sol.

October Happenings, 2009

I am happy to start the fall season with Durye & Friends.
The queen of conga will charm you with her beat, her journey has taken her to far away lands and back to Dallas. She has performed with a lot of our talented cats here in Dallas, playing Latin, Jazz, Rock, Folk and Funk, her style is the style of the heart, the beat that keeps you dancing.

I am excited to have new works in the gallery, these works are more figurative, less abstract, the images come from my immediate surroundings, my imagination, and they represent places, people, things and experiences.
